To tell the truth I kinda dislike Valentine’s day! I don’t mean to sound like wet blanket and I do see the irony in it as I sell paper hearts for a living. I guess it’s the obligation part I have a hard time with!
This week I purchased in total: 36 valentines day treats for my children to give out (and made them sign each one). I Attended a Valentine’s Day party that cut my work day in half .I Searched high and low, spending too much time searching for a ‘red’ shirt for one of my sons. I totally forgot to sign up to bring a ‘special snack’ to the V-day party which made me feel like a bad mom and last night I saw my husband scramble out the door to get ‘ketchup’ for the meatloaf he was making for dinner. The fact that he made dinner meant so much more to me that the roses he felt the need to purchase along with the ketchup!!!
My husband and sons do not feel as I do about Valentines day, in fact I think they are indifferent to it!
I’ve had my Valentine’s Day reservations for a few years now….THIS YEAR HOWEVER I DID FIND A POSITIVE TO TAKE AWAY FROM V-DAY!!!

AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW SOME LOVE TO THE WOMAN WHO EXEMPLIFIES THE MEANING:
We (the boys and I) purchased a few special deliveries that should arrive today for my mom and I’m so excited about them, I won’t say what they are in case she is reading this post!
My mom is always so thoughtful…today she arrived at our house before 8am (cause she knew that her grand kids would still be at home) She dropped off huge cards for the boys which made them squeal and a beautiful plant for us, even though she knows I have a black thumb!
My mom is amazing! I will never be as good a mom as she is and I will always see it that way!
She loves unconditionally, has an aura about her that will always feel like home to me. She is not pushy, loud, nor idle. She puts her family first, finds the positive side to any situation and my husband(who has lost both parents)finds some maternal redemption in the love she shows to him.
Today is a great day to let my mom know that I love her. And I believe that she takes the opposite view that I have about Valentine’s day and because it means something to her, it gives me hope that my cynicism about today, if only for today, will be dashed.
There are no polite obligations if the love you feel is true, constant and never ending!

Thank you, Candy!!
I am both humbled and inspired by your kind and thoughtful words and I am indeed blessed to be surrounded by the most awesome family who makes it easy to love.
I cherish our love and friendship.
Happy Valentine’s Day ~ Mom
I love you mom!!!!!
